One of Hollywood’s most iconic love stories came to an end before it truly began: last summer, 52-year-old Ben Affleck ended his relationship with Jennifer Lopez, with the singer filing for divorce on their second wedding anniversary. Following this, Affleck spent more time with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.
The director has no problem with the care and support that Garner, the mother of his three children, offers. The two remain close and good friends. Garner is well aware of Affleck’s nature and believes that his struggles in his personal life stem from his difficult personality and selfishness.
Garner feels that her ex-husband was neither patient nor polite with Lopez and has a tendency to react impulsively, like a teenager. “These days, Jen has a significant influence on Ben, and she feels compelled to control his behavior, especially when it comes to how he interacts with JLo. He was so impatient with her and incredibly ungrateful,” a source shared.
Garner admires Lopez’s commitment to her children, though Affleck has distanced himself from engaging with Lopez’s children from her marriage to Marc Anthony. “Jen is truly impressed by how devoted JLo still is to the kids. She kept her promise and remained part of their lives, even though Ben didn’t do the same for JLo’s twins. Jen scolded him and encouraged him to step up,” the source added.
Affleck seeks to spend more time with Garner, and she uses this opportunity to help direct his energy. “Ben is also rude and grumpy when speaking to or seeing JLo, which Jen finds unacceptable. She believes he needs to mature, act like an adult, and treat JLo with much more respect,” the source continued.
Garner and Affleck met in 2001 on the set of Pearl Harbor and began their romance in 2004. They married in secret on the Turks and Caicos Islands the following year. The couple separated in 2015 and finalized their divorce three years later. They have maintained a positive relationship, co-parenting their three children—18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Seraphina, and 12-year-old Samuel.
