During his boot camp performance on X Factor, Sam Black proposed to his girlfriend, Emma.
Despite his heartfelt performance, judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh decided not to move him forward, ending his audition on a bittersweet note.
Simon interrupted Sam’s version of Del Shannon’s “Runaway” and asked him to sing without the backing track to focus on his vocals.
After conferring with the panel, Simon crushed Sam’s hopes by sending him home.
“To be honest, we all really like you,” Simon said. “But we have to say no. However, I think people will genuinely like you.”
“Is there anything I can do before I go? I’m never going to get this chance again,” Sam replied, clearly disappointed. He then invited Emma up to the stage.
Sam knelt down and asked, “Do you think I can get a yes from you?”
When Emma said yes, Nicole became emotional.
“You’ve got a great guy there,” Simon told her. “Honestly, that’s probably better than us saying ‘yes.’” Sam later joked, “At least I got one ‘yes,’ and that’ll be enough for me.”
