Thousands of viewers thought the puzzle was broken… until they realized what they had missed.

Friday night’s episode of Wheel of Fortune had viewers talking long after the credits rolled, thanks to one unusually tricky puzzle and a dramatic Bonus Round that ended with a heartbreaking loss. What started as a typical game quickly turned into one of those episodes that left fans debating the answers online and wondering whether they could have done any better under the pressure.

Three contestants took the stage hoping to spin their way to victory: Stephen Sporer from Minnesota, Christina White from California, and Megan Russell from West Virginia. The competition got off to a rocky start, with each player landing on the dreaded Bankrupt wedge at least once. Just when it seemed no one could build momentum, Russell broke through by solving the opening puzzle and earning $3,500, giving herself an early lead.

The biggest surprise of the night came during the second puzzle in the “Event” category. When the board was finally completed, the answer read “Seeing the Green Flash.” Instead of celebrating a solve, many viewers were left wondering what the phrase even meant. Social media quickly filled with confused reactions, as countless fans admitted they had never heard of a “green flash” before and questioned whether the puzzle was unusually difficult.

To clear up the confusion, host Ryan Seacrest and longtime co-host Vanna White explained that the green flash is actually a genuine natural phenomenon. Under very specific atmospheric conditions, a brief burst of green light can sometimes be seen just above the horizon as the sun sets. While the explanation answered viewers’ questions, many still felt the phrase was far from common knowledge.

As the game continued, Christina White enjoyed a strong comeback, winning $9,000 along with an exciting vacation to Aruba. But it was Stephen Sporer who caught fire during the final rounds. He dominated the Triple Toss-Up puzzles and confidently solved the last regular puzzle, “In the Home Stretch,” boosting his total winnings to an impressive $35,000 and earning a coveted spot in the Bonus Round.

With one final puzzle standing between him and an even bigger payday, the tension inside the studio reached its peak. After the standard letters were revealed, the board showed O N O _ R _ _ _. Sporer carefully considered every possibility, trying several guesses as the countdown clock ticked away. Unfortunately, none of them were correct.

When time expired, the missing letters revealed the answer: “On Our Way.” It was a phrase that many viewers at home claimed they figured out almost immediately, making the outcome even more frustrating to watch. Hidden inside the envelope was an additional $40,000, a prize that slipped away in the final seconds.

Although missing out on the Bonus Round jackpot was undoubtedly disappointing, Sporer still ended the night with an impressive $35,000 in winnings. Even so, the combination of the puzzling “Green Flash” clue and the painful Bonus Round miss made this one of the season’s most talked-about episodes, sparking plenty of debate among fans about which puzzle was actually the toughest.
