The rooftop office party began calmly, even with a touch of celebration. Employees of a large company had gathered to congratulate their new director. No one said it out loud, but everyone knew that just a year ago, this woman had simply been the owner’s wife—and now she was leading the entire organization.
Her husband had died suddenly. A tragic accident took his life in a single evening, and no one had time to truly process what had happened. He left no will, as he was still young and had never thought about death.
By law, all his assets—his property, bank accounts, and the company itself—passed to his legal wife. They had no children, which made her the sole heir and the only person with the right to run the business.
This news hit his mother hard. The mother-in-law was convinced her son would have taken care of her and never left her without a share. But the law was on the daughter-in-law’s side.
At first, she tried to talk calmly. Then came arguments, accusations, and endless reproaches. More and more often, the mother-in-law claimed that the young woman had taken everything that belonged to their family.
The final straw was the office party. Employees decided to celebrate the appointment of the new director and invited nearly everyone connected to the company. Someone even invited the mother-in-law, thinking it was the right thing to do.
She arrived in a black suit and barely spoke to anyone. Standing by the window, she watched the crowd, occasionally casting cold glances at her daughter-in-law.

Security and two men quickly descended a maintenance ladder and, within moments, managed to reach her and pull her onto the platform.
She was trembling, her hands cut and bleeding, but she was alive. Within minutes, police officers and paramedics were already on the scene.
As she was being taken to the hospital, she briefly opened her eyes and quietly told a police officer:
“Please… don’t let her go.”
In that moment, the mother-in-law realized for the first time that her plan had collapsed—and that a very different future now awaited her.
