Johnny Depp is returning to big cinema—and you definitely won’t recognize him! The 62-year-old actor has radically transformed his appearance for a new role that’s already being called the comeback of the year. Depp appears with facial prosthetics and gray hair—and still looks amazing!
On January 28, Johnny Depp was spotted on the streets of London in the image of Ebenezer Scrooge. Thanks to elaborate makeup and prosthetics, the actor looks completely different: tousled gray hair, a nightcap, and a long coat worn over pajamas.
The film is titled “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol” («Эбенизер: Рождественская песня»). It is directed by stylistic horror master Ti West, best known for hits like “X” and “Pearl.”
The Ghost of Christmas Past is played by Andrea Riseborough, who appears entirely covered in white makeup with eerie contact lenses. The cast also includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, and Sam Claflin.
Interestingly, Robert Eggers is simultaneously working on his own version of the same story starring Willem Dafoe—and that adaptation promises to be truly terrifying.
This marks Depp’s first major Hollywood project after a long hiatus and the highly publicized legal battles with Amber Heard. Following his court victory in 2022, Johnny worked mainly in European cinema (including “Jeanne du Barry”) and focused on directing. But “Ebenezer,” produced by Paramount Pictures, is his official ticket back to the top tier of Hollywood.
The premiere is scheduled for November 13, 2026.
