A passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines, traveling from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the Aktau airport in western Kazakhstan. There were 69 people aboard, including 64 passengers and 5 crew members. The passengers consisted of 37 Azerbaijani nationals, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhstanis, and 3 Kyrgyzstanis, with information still pending on two other passengers.

Despite the devastation, 32 people survived the crash. Emergency response teams, comprising 432 personnel and 79 units of equipment, are currently on-site to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts.
